Mogren Beach is surrounded by a towering cliff covered in lush Mediterranean vegetation, creating a secluded and serene atmosphere. The vast expanse of the sea stretches before you, offering a sense of connection to nature.

Conveniently located next to Budva’s old town, Mogren Beach is one of the most memorable beaches in all of Montenegro.

The Iconic Dancing Ballerina Statue

As you make your way to Mogren Beach, you’ll pass by the famous bronze dancing ballerina statue perched on a sea rock. This statue is a symbol of Budva (and our blog!) and a perfect spot for your vacation Instagram photo.

The Path to Paradise

When you’re done with your ‘holiday job’, continue along the charming and cool rocky path to reach the first part of the beach, Mogren 1. The path winds between the cliff on one side and the sea on the other, so be cautious as it can be slippery despite the railing. In rare cases of large waves, it’s best to avoid this beach for safety reasons.

At the end of the rocky path, you’ll arrive at Mogren 1, which is connected to Mogren 2 by an interesting pathway through a cave. Both sections of the beach feature quaint cafes and sunbeds with umbrellas available for rent at reasonable prices. You can also find natural shade on both beaches. The sand has a slightly larger grain size but I would still call it sand rather than pebbles.

Thrilling Cliff Jumping

Mogren Beach is famous for its cliff jumping, offering four different platforms. On Mogren 1, you’ll find “The Channel,” a 5-meter high platform between two cliffs. It’s narrow, so be cautious. “The Terrace,” also on Mogren 1, is about 7 meters high.

At the end of Mogren 2, there are two more platforms: “Little Ponta” at 10 meters high and “Big Ponta” at 20 meters.

Local tradition holds these jumps as a symbolic path from boyhood to manhood, as by taking these jumps you demonstrate how your skill and your bravery increase.

Be careful when jumping, especially from Big Ponta, as the rocks are steep and slippery. Tense your muscles to avoid injury.

Notably, this spot is marked by an incident from the 1970s when a tourist encountered a shark after jumping (there is a board with a notification in case you want to take a picture). While shark incidents are extremely rare, it’s a reminder to always be cautious.

Accessibility and Parking

Located in the city center, Mogren Beach is easily accessible from anywhere in Budva. If you’re driving, there are three large parking lots near the Avala hotel where you can purchase daily or hourly tickets.

Plan Your Visit

Despite a couple of downsides—early sunsets around 4-5 PM and occasional crowds—Mogren Beach remains one of the most beautiful and authentic beaches in Budva. It’s definitely a must-see on your visit.
