It’s no accident that the former Yugoslav royal family chose King’s beach for their summer residence. It’s truly an experience fit for a king.
King’s Beach is grand and monumental, with royal blue sea and a beautiful park in the backdrop. Nestled in a little bay, the beach is surrounded by carefully selected pines and cypresses. And just behind the beach is the summer residence of King Aleksandar, where every plant in the garden is perfectly groomed and taken care of.
All of this adds up to a magnificent first impression and a general ‘wow’ factor. It is definitely one of the most luxurious, elegant, and Instagrammable beaches in Montenegro, which many couples use as a wedding photo shoot venue.
Royal blue water color
The water at King’s Beach is clear and a deep royal blue. The entrance to the water is perfectly balanced—not too steep, but also not too flat. The beach itself is covered with little pebbles, which are interesting to look at and large enough that they don’t get into your clothes like sand would.
Magnificent and healing view
The view is stunning! The vast blue sea stretches out before you, offering a calming and fulfilling sight. Both to the left and to the right, beautiful pine and cypress forests frame the sides of the view. To the left, you can see the charming St. Stefan town-hotel, a true landmark of Montenegro.
Similar to Queen’s Beach (which is only a 10-minute walk away), King’s Beach is tucked into a little bay and surrounded by a beautifully developed Mediterranean park. These two beaches once belonged to Queen Marija Karadjordjevic and her husband, King Aleksandar Karadjordjevic. Reflecting the customs of their time, they had separate beaches—one for males and the other for females.
King’s beach garden
The park was created for the royal family and it’s been well-maintained over the decades, so it’s truly magnificent. The pathways, including the one closest to the beach, are clean, and the lawns are always perfectly cut. In addition to the usual Adriatic coast trees like pine, cypress, and olive, you’ll find exotic species such as Japanese medlar, agave, eucalyptus, cacti, and many others. Also, it’s the perfect walking route in the evening or when you want to take a break from sunbathing.
We’ve spent some of our most beautiful days at King’s Beach. The atmosphere is so relaxed and light, reminiscent of a slower, bygone era.
The beach is wild with no infrastructure
Please be aware that there are no sunbeds to rent. Also, there isn’t any other beach infrastructure. The beach, along with Queen’s Beach and St. Stefan, is part of the Aman resort, which is now closed, so the beach is open to all visitors but without any amenities. Previously, the beach was private—reserved only for hotel guests or anyone willing to pay 220 EUR a day for a pair of sunbeds.
King’s Beach is about 15 minutes away from Budva. You can get there by a local bus or by car. If you choose to drive, there is a huge free parking lot just above the beach.
