Nestled beside the charming old town of Budva, Mogren Beach is not just a beach — it’s an experience that feels both grand and intimate. This landmark destination is framed by towering cliffs draped in lush Mediterranean greenery, making you feel tucked away in a secret world of nature. At the same time, the vast, endless sea stretches before you, reminding you just how small — and wonderfully connected — you are to nature’s grandeur.
It’s no wonder that Mogren Beach remains one of the most memorable and beloved spots on Montenegro’s entire coast.
The Journey to Mogren: A Scenic Walk with a Surprise
Reaching Mogren Beach is an adventure in itself. As you stroll from Budva’s old town, you’ll pass the famous bronze Dancing Ballerina statue, perched gracefully on a sea rock. This elegant figure has become a true symbol of Budva — and our blog too! Don’t miss your chance to snap a perfect Instagram photo here; it’s a must for every visitor.

Once your photo session is done, follow the charming rocky path that winds its way to the beach. With a cliff on one side and the sea on the other, this picturesque walkway feels like a quiet escape from the city. Be cautious, though — the path can be slippery, especially after rain or during big waves. While there’s a sturdy railing to help you along, watch your step for safety. On rare days when the sea is rough, it’s best to choose another beach, as Mogren’s waves can become surprisingly strong.
Two Beaches, Twice the Beauty
At the end of the path, you’ll arrive at Mogren 1, the first section of the beach, which seamlessly leads to Mogren 2 through a small pathway passing under a natural cave. These two parts together make up the full Mogren Beach experience, each offering its own charm.
Both beaches are sandy — though the grains are slightly larger than typical fine sand — giving the shore a unique, soft feel. You’ll find quaint cafes serving refreshments, as well as sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent (prices vary seasonally). Prefer natural shade? Small cliff-covered spots on both beaches offer cool relief from the sun.
A Thrill-Seeker’s Paradise: Cliff Jumping at Mogren Beach
Mogren Beach is not just for sunbathers — it’s also famous for cliff jumping, attracting both locals and adventurous tourists alike. There are four well-known jumping spots scattered across the two beaches:
- On Mogren 1, you’ll find “The Channel”, named for the two cliffs flanking the narrow water gap where jumpers land. It’s about 5 meters high but requires careful aim, as the space is tight.
- Nearby is “The Terrace”, standing taller at around 7 meters — a favorite for those looking for a little extra thrill.
For the truly brave, Mogren 2 offers two more platforms:
- “Little Ponta”, roughly 10 meters high, and
- “Big Ponta”, soaring to an impressive 20 meters.
Local tradition says that jumping from these cliffs is a symbolic rite of passage — a way to prove courage and skill. But be warned: Big Ponta is seriously high, and climbing back up the steep, slippery rocks can be tricky. If you dare to jump, be sure to tense your muscles when you hit the water to avoid injury.
A word of curiosity: this is also the site of a rare but infamous 1970s incident where a student unfortunately landed on a shark — a tragic and unique story that’s now marked by a small signboard. But don’t worry; such events are extraordinarily rare, and Mogren remains as safe as any other beach in the area.
Easy Access from the Heart of Budva
Thanks to its location right next to Budva’s old town, Mogren Beach is incredibly easy to reach, no matter where you’re staying. If you arrive by car, you’ll find three large parking lots conveniently situated near the Avala Hotel, where you can get hourly or daily tickets.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
While Mogren Beach is undeniably beautiful and special, there are a couple of small downsides to consider:
- The sun sets earlier here, around 4–5 PM, due to the high cliffs surrounding the beach.
- On peak summer days, it can get crowded, as both locals and tourists flock to enjoy its beauty.

Still, these minor details don’t take away from the beach’s charm. If anything, they make early morning visits all the more magical — when the sea is calm, the crowds are fewer, and the sunlight gently kisses the water.
Why Mogren Beach is a Must-Visit
With its breathtaking cliffs, crystal-clear waters, historic charm, and thrilling cliff-jumping spots, Mogren Beach truly offers something for every kind of traveler. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or just a perfect place to capture Montenegro’s beauty, this beach should definitely be on your must-see list.
