Have you ever thought, “If only I knew this before my trip!”? For instance, I had no idea there are no pavements in Bali and it would help me a lot to prepare. To make your visit to Montenegro smoother, here are some helpful insider tips for visiting Budva I wish someone had shared with me before my visit.
1. Sun Beds Are Free After 5 PM
By law, all beaches must offer free sun beds after 5 PM and 99% of the beaches comply with this rule (most exclusive beaches don’t). Enjoy the sunset in comfort without spending a dime!
2. Everything is closed on Sundays
All shops and businesses, except bakeries, gas stations, and newsstands, are closed on Sundays. There’s also an on-duty pharmacy that is open 24/7. Keep this in mind when planning your vacation.
3. Montenegrins’ Communication Style
From all the tips for visiting Budva, and Montenegro in general, this one could change the feel of your trip the most. Namely, Montenegrins may seem very aggressive in their speech and body language, but don’t be alarmed—it’s just a cultural trait. Montenegro is generally a very safe country.
4. Driving Tips For Visiting Budva
Be cautious while driving! The steep and hilly terrain makes for very curvy roads, and locals often drive fast and, unfortunately, sometimes while intoxicated. Keep your speed low and stay alert.
5. Traveling with Kids
If you’re traveling with your little ones, note that taxi vehicles are not required to have child seats. To ensure your kids’ safety, consider renting a car and prearranging a child seat.
6. Digital tourist card
Budva can be a bit pricey, so every little discount helps! With the Budva Tourist app, available for both Android and iOS, you can enjoy exclusive savings on restaurants, boat rides, car rentals, water sports, and more. Simply download the app and start exploring the discounts. You can also easily get the app by scanning the QR code at participating shops and businesses.
7. Budva’s Main Bus Station Is a Hidden Gem
Typically, main bus stations are places you try to avoid, with their crowds and lackluster amenities. But Budva’s main bus station is a delightful exception! It’s actually worth a visit.
Here, you’ll find one of the best traditional restaurants in town, a mini zoo surrounded by beautiful greenery, and a café with an indoor playroom where kids can play under the supervision of a teacher. It’s a charming spot to explore, even if you’re not catching a bus!
